About the GED Test

The GED test consists of five parts covering the following subject areas:

Language Arts, Writing

Language Arts, Reading

Science

Social Studies

Math

The GED test is only given at specific GED Test Centers usually once per month. However, due to the length of the test, the exam is usually administered over a two day period. Each GED Test Center creates its own test schedule, so test dates are not the same for each GED Test Center. The TYT Program is not a GED Test Center. But we will take care of signing up our clients when they are ready to take the GED.

The GED cannot be taken online. It can only be taken at an official test center on the
scheduled dates. However, special testing accommodations can be arranged for students with special needs. A separate application process is available for students with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, an Emotional/Mental Health Disability, Learning and other Cognitive Disabilities, or a Physical/Chronic Health Disability.

Students aged 19 or older are automatically eligible to take the GED. If you are 17 or 18
years of age, you must wait one year after you left school or until after your senior class
graduates in order to be eligible to take the GED. The last school you attended must also verify your eligibility. The TYT program will assist our clients in all aspects of the GED application process.

In order to pass the GED, you must have a total score of 2250 points and at least 410 points on each individual test. Therefore, you must have an average score of 450 for the five parts of the GED. If your total score is above 2250 but you score below 410 on any part, you will not receive your diploma. However, you may retake any part of the test until you score 410 on all of the parts and your total score is above 2250. You must wait two months after the previous test to take it again. You will be given different forms of the test for each subsequent attempt. If you retest and score lower than before, the lower score is not counted. Your transcript will keep a running total of your highest scores. Keep in mind that you can only take the test three times in one year, from the date of your first attempt.
